holiday laughs

One an earlier post (found here) I wrote about my Christmas elf.  In addition, I spoke about how my co-workers and I were hiding the elf on each other for daily laughs.  It was a lot of fun to get to work everyday and look for or hide the elf.  We got pretty creative and the entire office got into to see where we hid the elf and so on.  Below are some pictures of Herbert (our elf) and his adventure in the office.

we could be millionaires!

I just have to laugh because my family could be millionaire's right now!  Have you ever heard of Elf on a Shelf?  Well my mother should have and we could be millionaires right now!

My mother is probably one of the most creative people I know.  When my siblings and I were younger she started this family tradition of getting us an "elf;" his name was Ugo.  Basically one Thanksgiving all of a sudden there was this elf, Ugo, sitting on our grandfather clock in the family room with a note.  My sister read the note aloud to us and the note was from Santa basically stating that his elf Ugo is now our family elf and comes every Thanksgiving to live with us to make sure we are good little children and make it to Santa's nice list.  Ugo would live with us and watch our every move and make toys at night while we slept, so every morning we would wake up and go find Ugo in a new spot!  Then on Christmas Eve when Santa came, Ugo would leave with him.
Honestly, this is one of the most precious and fondest childhood memories I have with my family.  My sister and I would wake each other up in the morning to compete on who could find Ugo first.

Now looking back, it seems so silly that we believed that story and then it makes me realize how awesome my mother is.  I used to go to school and tell everyone how I have an Elf and my mom basically started an Elf fad at my school.

Now as a baby shower gift, my mother gives her family and friends an elf to share with their future family.  To get an elf, she just shops around and she just miraculously finds dolls that look like elves.  She now has us all on the hunt!  In addition to the elf, she has created her own story of our family elf to share with others so they can create these memories with their children.

However now at work, someone decorated our office in holiday attire.  I noticed one of the Santa dolls was the perfect size and shape for the elf game.  We named him Herbert the elf and I hide him around our office daily and we see who can find him first.  I love doing this everyday because it makes me so thankful for working with awesome people who accept my cheeseyness and then makes me even more thankful for my amazing mother!

Stay tuned for pictures of our office elves and pictures and stories of my friends elves..

Happy Holidays!

Fat Talk Free Week

One of my favorite blogger's, Smart and Sassy with Sprinkles, posted this video this morning.

First thing I do when I get to work is get my coffee and read my 3 favorite blogs and this morning I was blown away by this video.  It really is no laughing matter and the statistics that were shown about women's self image of themselves is extremely sad.  We are all guilty of it, I am probably the worst.  I would give anything to be at the weight I was 5 years ago.  However, this video made me stop and think, "shut up Jenna and do something about it.  Stop complaining and do it."  It's like when I want a good grade on an exam, I do not sleep and study my butt off in the library.  So why can't I think like this when it comes to loosing weight.  I need to stop eating junk and drinking beer (especially) and work out more.  Yes, loosing weight is a lot harder than getting the A I want, but it can happen when you work hard.  This week I will NOT think negatively upon my appearance.

So ladies, stop being sorry for yourself about the way you look...everyone is beautiful in one way or another but it is your choice to show it!

Addictions

In today's world, many people have addictions.  But not all addictions have to be bad.  Some people it is shopping, some are sport teams, some are drugs and alcohol, the list can go on and on.  Addictions came to my attention this weekend when I went away with my best friends and each of our addictions came out.  Luckily all of our addictions are healthy and fun, but still addictions.  My one best friend is addicted to People.com.  She can tell you ALL the gossip about ALL the celebrities, she is obsessed and in love, but it's her thing.

My friend noticed my addicted while we unpacked and got ready for the night.  I have an addiction to Vera Bradley.  While unpacking she noticed I had a Vera Bradley wallet, suitcase, cosmetic cases and key chain.  We started laughing because it really was a lot but then she realized what nice of bags they are and was like I should get one of these suitcases.  I instantaneously became Vera Bradley's spokeswoman and began to sell the bags to her and told her how she could get a good deal and so on because that's how addicted I am!  I have Vera Bradley everything and even on Monday I made an online purchase because there was such a great sale going on!  Below is a sample of my collection...
Vera Bradley at Home

large duffel, travel organizer, wristlet (perfect for bar), cosmetic bag, satchel, bowling bag, tote (perfect for to use as a college backpack), satchel & even an apron (not been used)

Vera Bradley at the Office
coffee mug, key chain and LOTS of paper & post-its
 Vera Bradley in my Purse
small cosmetic ( perfect to hold daily needs like lip gloss, mascara & floss), key chain, wallet & check book
 My Fav Vera  Bradley Item
I recommend this to EVERYONE - it is a hanging travel organizer, perfect for all vacations and trips
I wish I could work at Vera Bradley - I'd fit in perfect and would be a great spokeswoman.  But they are headquartered in Indiana :(.  Maybe they'll regionalize... hey a girl can dream!

What is your addiction?  I'd love to hear about it and share them in other posts!

Addictions are funny... as long as there safe & healthy!

Victoria Rose

Today's post is dedicated to my cousin, Victoria Rose who is 21 today!  I come from a big loving Italian family and I have 10 cousins on my mothers side:  1 boy and 10 girls!  The boy (Kyle) is the eldest grandchild and then the next are 10 girls in a row!  My sister and I are the oldest girls, then Katie, Tori, Kelsey, Sarah, Jessi, Lea, Danielle and Andie!  Of the 11 grandchildren we are broken up into 2 generations and myself and the oldest girls are extremely close!  I consider them more like sisters than cousins.  We all live far away but talk regularly and when we reunite, it is like nothing has changed!  We are all in my sister's wedding party and I could not be more excited to share this with them!

Well today Tori is 21 and I am so glad to have another friend to go out with!  Finally this summer I will have someone to go to Down the Hatch with!!  Tori is the sweet and smart cousin.  She is a professional snuggler and has an AMAZING wardrobe.  She is going to school to become a genetic counselor in biology but I wish she would drop out and go to beauty school and become my personal stylist because she has such an eye for fashion, hair and makeup.  She is one of the best friends I have and I am just lucky to call her family!

Happy Birthday Victoria Rose - I love you!

Alyssa

This post is dedicated to one of my amazing and beautiful best friends, Alyssa.  Today RIGHT NOW she is growing a pair of balls and driving cross country with her boyfriend, Nick, to move and work in California for a year or two.  This has been a dream of hers for years.  While I am sooooooo happy for her, I can not imagine my life without seeing her this next year.

Best friends like Alyssa are rare and I am blessed to have 5 of these people who I have known for almost 20 years.  I consider these girls my soulmates and I would be lost without them.  This may be one of the ONLY times I will admit that this professional laugher is crying.

It is only a year or two... no big deal.. piece of cake.  It's just like we are back in college.  We have facetime, skype, gmail, texts, cells and she is coming home for the holidays and now I have a killer place to visit where I only need to pay for air fare!!

So to honor my best friend, I want to take a walk down memory lane and share some of the crazy and hysterical times we have had together laughing.

Follow Alyssa during her exciting journey and read her NEW BLOG, Bicoastal Blunders!  Good Luck Alyssa - I'll miss you, but like you said this is not goodbye, it's a see ya later!

love always and always and forever and ever,
Jenn

lipstick laughs

As I have mentioned before, I come from a big Italian family.  This past weekend was my cousins family graduation party.  Family parties are always a good time that end in drunken shananigans.  My Great Aunt Rosetta (who is 90 years old) is known for bringing "gifts."  These are really not "gifts," basically she cleans out her apartment and brings you her old belongings because she thinks you could use them.  As this is very thoughtful of her, usually it is something you do not want nor need.  As funny as it is, it is very sentimental at the same time.

Well I think this weekend's gift might have been my favorite.  Aunt Rosetta came with a sleeve of lipstick tubes for each of her great nieces.   I do not think I have really ever worn lipstick, and I now know why.  That stuff tastes bad, my cousins and I all agreed that we'll stick to our lip gloss.   But instantaneously as soon as I received my tube of bright pink lipstick, I put it on and started the trend with my 10 other girl cousins.  We were hysterically laughing and Aunt Rosetta was so touched that we loved the gifts.  We took a GREAT picture of all of us wearing our lipstick surrounding Aunt Rosetta smiling and laughing together.  It is a picture I will definitely cherish and frame.  Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of the picture yet (my mom took the picture and did not post yet). I was only able to take a picture with my iPhone to send a quick pic to my sister who had to miss the lipstick laughs because she was in class on a Saturday.

nicknames

I can not be more excited!!!!  My nephew who is 20 months old finally said my name this weekend!  It was and is not the full "Jenna" but he says "enna" and I will take it!   I am just excited that he knows that when he says that word or sound that it means me, his coolest, funnest aunt.  Aunt Enna, I am :)

It got me to laugh though, about silly little nicknames because now I have another one.  Here is a list of my names...
  • Jenna (obvisouly)
  • Jenn
  • JennaBenna
  • J
  • Schmenna
  • TigerLily
  • Enna
What are some nicknames you have?

concerts....

One of the best things about the summer is the amount of great concerts that come around my area.  Concerts are just so more enjoyable in the summer than they are in any other season.

Last night I relived my youth and went to the NKOTBSB (New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys) Concert with my sister and friends.  I was a HUGE BSB fan growing up, Nick Carter was my life!  They were my first concert in 2000, my parents surprised my sister and I with the tickets and it was like we won the lottery, we were so excited!  Over the past 13 years I have seen the Backstreet Boys probably about 6 times with my sister.  It was just so much fun pretending like I was a 13 year old girl again last night singing and dancing every move with my childhood crushes.  There were numerous points of the night where my sister and I were laughing at eachother because it was like nothing had changed and we still were those little girls.  It was a great night and a night I will never forget.

Besides the NKOTBSB concert, I am seeing Glee this Friday, June 17 at the IZOD Center, then Katy Perry at the Prudential Center on Sunday, June 19 and then Taylor Swift on July, 20 at the Prudential Center.  Hopefully I will have more concerts to list as the summer begins, but I am so excited and cannot wait!

What concerts are you seeing this summer or what silly bands were you obsessed with growing up as I was with the Backstreet Boys?

30 days!

30 days until the 4th of July!

I love the 4th of July almost as much as I love my best friends.  4 years ago my best friends and I spent the 4th of July at Kate's lake house in Swartswood, New Jersey.  We had the time of our lives and full of laughter.  That night completely intoxicated, we vowed and promised to each other that for the rest of our lives that the 4th of July will be our holiday and always spent together.

Let's face it, as we grow older, fall in love and get jobs, our lives may take us in different directions.  It is already happening and we are only 23.  Some of us are still in school, some have moved 20 minutes away and others 2 hours; it is life and tough decisions we have each had to make.  But I am lucky to have these friends and to have had them for almost 20 years now

So every 4th of July for the rest of my life, I have plans and those plans are in Swartswood, New Jersey with my best friends spending the day in the sun and laughing.  I hope my husband and kids are cool with that because if not - CYA - have a nice weekend with daddy because mommy will be at the lake!

Text Etiquette

Text messages can be super awkward!!  There is nothing worse when someone just texts you "HI"  or when you are done speaking and they say just "BYE."  Total waste of a text message if you ask me.  Or I HATE when you are having a conversation with someone through text and its constant communication and then they just stop talking when you ask something important.  That gives me huge anxiety! Like "HELLLOOO! Where did you go?"  I can only imagine if I was having this conversation with you in person and what you just walk away... how rude!

I am your lazy texter.  I do not "proof" my texts and send even if I hit letters that do not belong in the message, you need to understand "Jenna language" to read my texts.  My friends yell at me all the time, but I like it, lol.  It makes me laugh and adds a lil something special to my texts, like I am really making them my own.

What is the proper etiquette for text messaging?  It is 2011 and probably the most common means of communication, someone needs to define the proper etiquette for texting.

What do you think?  Please help!

katie lu-lu

I would like to dedicate this post to my best friend, favorite cousin, blog follower... Katie Lu-Lu.

She is finally 21 today and she makes me laugh without even trying.  We are family so we have to like and love each other, but we chose to be best friends.  She lives 2 hours away but we always talk, even if its through words with friends on our iphones.

Katie is a constant person in my life and can always make me laugh and smile just by being her quirky self.

i hate car rides

Sorry I have been MIA again, but I have been super busy!  My brother and sister in law just had their second son, so I have been busy being an aunt!!  I would like to announce the birth of my nephew, Ryder Jensen. My brother lives in Maryland, so usually once a month my parents, sister and I truck on down to Maryland to see our family.  The ride is only 2 and a half an hours so it is not bad.  I had a great Easter weekend with my family; I am truly blessed.
the newest fmaily addition, Ryder
My other nephew, Brayden (the big brother), is 18 months and literally the funniest toddler I know.  I had a great time playing and being a big kid with him from throwing the ball around, to blowing bubbles to running around a tunnel that I just fit in!  It was a blast!

my adorable nephew & BFF, Brayden
It seems every time we go to Maryland to meet my nephews for the first time, something goes wrong with our car.  Last year in October 2009 when we went down to meet baby, Brayden, literally as we got on the turnpike our car started smoking.  We pulled over and called triple A and got picked up by a crazy truck driver!  Little to our surprise, our engine died and this crazy truck driver had to drive my family and I home in a pick up truck.  It was not funny at the moment, but now looking back it was hysterical.  I can just picture my family and I in our pj's in a HUGE pick up truck with this crazy truck driver who was definitely from a different planet!

Well this time... to start the drive down took us 5 hours because traffic was HORRIBLE!  It was miserable, but all worth it for a great weekend.  Then we left yesterday morning, we were doing great!  I took an hour and a half nap and woke up and we were just getting into New Jersey; things were looking good.  Then we left my sister and I started to play the alphabet game (yes, we are big kids at heart) and then our car started to "shimmy."  Ali and I were like "Whoa, we are shimming!" But our dad said not to worry about it.  We have a mini van and my dad knows everything, so Ali and I trusted him because he is our dad.  But we continued to "shimmy," and the big kids that we are we started to sing, "shimmy shimmy coco puff, shimmy shimmy pow," and cracking each other up.  And then BOOM our whole car totally shifted.  Luckily my dad was able to pull over and to our surprise we had the worst flat tire!

the flat tire :(
Luckily, flats are easily fixed and triple A came to our rescue within 30 minutes.  But we all agreed, if my brother has another kid we will wait to meet the baby when they come to Jersey!

bid and bid and bid and bid

I have a new addiction and it is called bidrack.com.  It is an auction website when you can bid and buy great things!

I am addicted and I am laughing at myself because I am literally just staring at the screen debating to bid or not because it is so competitive.  I am eyeing the Macbook and a Louie bag; I literally turned around for a second and BOOM the Louie sold for three dollars!  I am so mad at myself.  And as a punishment, I am making myself stay off of it for at least 3 hours.  We need some time apart.

Check it out and make an account, you get 40 bids just for signing up!

Tweet Tweet

I love twitter, I have officially become an avid tweeter.  Twitter definitely gets me through my day.  On my breaks I go on twitter on my phone and laugh or catch up with friends.

Who are your favorite people to follow on twitter?

OR

Who is the funniest person you follow on twitter?

Right now, I would have to say the funniest person I follow on twitter is the BronxZoosCobra.  The cobra's tweets are hysterical....

Bronx Zoo's Cobra

"@BronxZooCobra: I was named the second most powerful animal on Twitter: http://bit.ly/esoFcZ And yet, I can't seem to get a decent soy latte in here. "

"@BronxZooCobra:You know I like fat bottomed girls. I'm from the Bronx. Duh."

"@BronxZooCobra: Anyone know if Rebecca Black lives in NYC? No reason."

"@BronxZooCobra: A lot of people are asking how I can tweet with no access to a computer or fingers. Ever heard of an iPhone? Duh."

Mad snaps to the person who created this twitter, you make my day brighter and full of laughs :)!

Prom Season

How did you get asked to prom?  I do not even remember how I got asked, I think it was just mutually agreed for my friend, Matt and I to go together.  My cousin, Kelsey, who is more like a baby sister is currently a senior in high school, she had been stressing the past 2 weeks because no one had asked her to prom yet.  It was devastating for her and for all of us to watch her go through this.  No one could bring up the word prom to her because it was a sore subject.  Finally Kelsey decided to take matters in her own hands and asked a boy she thought would have asked her.  When she asked he said he was not sure if he even wanted to go.  She was annoyed and upset and just did not get it.

I am not saying this because I am family, but Kelsey is an adorable hot 18 year old, she is tall and skinny and hilarious.  There is no reason why any boy would not want to go with her.

So last Friday was the school's fundraiser, Mr. Pinacle, which is a male beauty pageant.  The boy she thought would have asked her was a contestant.  During the talent portion, he sang and played the piano to "Teenage Dream" by Katy Perry and was amazing at it!  While performing, mid performance he called Kelsey up on stage and sang to her in front of the whole school and asked her to prom!  It was great and my other cousin (Kelsey's sister) caught this all on film!

Now after all this, Kelsey is happy and the date explained he had this planned the whole time to ask her this way but he felt really bad when Kelsey asked him herself.  He almost did not go through with this because Kelsey would have to wait another week dateless.  But Kelsey said it was well worth the wait to have gotten asked to prom the way she did.

Play Ball!

Today is baseball's opening day, which is a holiday in itself for my family and I.  Baseball and New York Yankees are a major part of my family.  Basically if you are not a Yankee fan, you are not considered family.  It is kind of just assumed that you will be a Yankee fan because from the moment a baby is brought into our family, they are bought Yankee tee's, Yankee onesies, Yankee bat and ball, Yankee toys and so on.  It is kind of sick, but we are all guilty of it.  Whenever I see anything Yankee related for a baby, I buy it for my nephew... I am turning into my mother!

Anyways, I love Yankee's Opening Day.  I wanted to go to the game, but it was just so darn expensive for tickets!  So instead I will watch the game from my computer in my little cubicle.  I am going to the game on Saturday with my best friends and ironically my dad and his friends are going to.

I love the Yankees so much because it reminds me of my loving family and all the memories we have created and laughed at during Yankee games.

Christmas 2009 - even my Christmas card had to be themed around the Yankees!
My dad, brother, sister & me at Yankee opening day 2009 in the new staidum!

What is something you and all of your family have in common?

stalking at its finest

You what is the worst... but so funny at the same time... when you are on facebook and you click on the profile of a friend of a friend to realize you have a random mutual friend.  This just happened to me, and I am like “Whoa, how do these 2 people know each other?"  But I was clearly stalking and fell upon it by accident and would be completely random to ask either of the partied... I am literally cracking up in my cubicle right now because this is just too funny!

Has this ever happened to you?

Top of the Morning To Ya

I love Saint Patrick's Day, I love everything about it and I think this year's St. Patty's Celebration has been the best thus far!!!  It started on Saturday, March 5th at the Hoboken Parade with my home friends.  We lucked out and had a perfect sunny and warm day for the parade and day drinking!  We had a blast and had many laughs!
The next event was on the following weekend at NYC Saint Patty's Bar Crawl with my sorority sisters.  This was so much fun because I haven't seen some of these girls in months so it was great to catch up and celebrate my favorite holiday together.  Again, it was a warm sunny Saturday, perfect for day drinking and walking around the city.  It was full of laughs, at the last bar we went to we grabbed a table by the door so we could eat and relax.  Being by the door we were constantly disturbed by people entering or going, so I decided to make the best of it.  I became the bar's meet and greet and greet people as the entered and left.  It was hysterical!  Some people were so nice, some laughed, some were rude and some just did not get it.  But my friends and I were hysterical!

The next shenanigan was on actual Saint Patricks Day.  I went to work  and brought in Irish Soda Bread, which was the first time I ever made it!! Then after work, my four best friends and I met up for dinner and green beer.  It was a perfect ending to a perfect holiday with great friends and great laughs!

Silenced Laughs

First, I would like to apologize for my absence in blogging.  I'll be honest... I have been too busy celebrating my favorite holiday (HAPPY SAINT PATRICKS DAY …BY THE WAY).  But don't worry, there will be a great blog to follow after all my festivities are complete!

But moreover, there has not been much to laugh about with the disaster that struck Japan; My stomach hurts even writing these words.  My thoughts, prayers and love are with the people in Japan.  I can not even imagine what they are going through.

Numerous of my favorite blogs are participating in a day of silence started by the amazing blog, Utterly Engaged. They are asking all blogs to support to help fundraise for the disaster relief and to pay our respect to those who lost their lives in Japan.

I am honored to participate and help make a difference and you should too!  It’s sad that disasters have to make us realize how lucky we truly are. Please click here if you would like to donate and please click here for directions to participate.

I wish you ALL happy laughs!

the best holiday ever!!

I do not know about you, but my favorite holiday is quickly approaching... SAINT PATRICKS DAY!  I don't know if it is my irish blood or just because this holiday is revolved around good food, booze, friends and a month of celebrating - BUT I LOVE IT!

I have so many great memories and laughs from St. Patrick's Day since I was young.  Please enjoy some pictures from my Saint Patrick's Day over the years...

me and my sisters as babes celebrating

 St. Patty's day as a 21 year old :)

the laughing idol

Okay... I will admit it, I LOVE American Idol.  I have loved idol since it came out when I was in 8th grade.  I think I like it so much because it is the one show my entire family can agree on watching together.  It is so unusual that this even happens but for 2 nights a week for an hour each, my family gets together in the family room to watch Idol.

The best part of Idol is the auditions.  Some of these people are CRAZY!  It is hysterical and definitely makes you feel better as a person that you are not messed up like some of these characters.  What I want to know is where are some of these peoples friends and family letting them go on the show?  I am no singer (but definitely better than some of these crazed people) but there is no way in hell my mother would ever let me out and try out and embarrass myself like some of these people do.  But who am I to judge?  At least they are out there taking risks and letting the whole world see while I just sit back and relax with my family and laugh

Also, I was a little hesitant to the new judges JLO and Steven Tyler, I was not sure how this transition would be.  But I LOVE them.  Especially Steven Tyler, he is hysterical the way he interacts with the contestants and just his mannerisms.

Anyone else addicted to Idol like me?

What Does It Feel Like?

This week has been horrible.  I would like to erase this week from my life and it is not because I spent Valentine's Day alone.  I had a death in the family and then another family member admitted into the hospital.  This week is bad luck.  Bad things usually ALWAYS happen around Valentine's day for me.  I do not think I will ever like or enjoy this holiday even when I am in love.

I am DETERMINED to make this week feel better for me and I will do that by posting more and focusing my energy on LAUGHTER like I should be doing.

So I started my Thursday with asking close friends, co-workers and loved ones, what does laughter feel like for you? Here are the fabulous responses I got from them...
  • laughing feels therapeutic to me because after you have a really good laugh, like the kind of laugh you can't breath because your laughing so hard, it puts you in a wonderful mood.
  • Laughter feels like shared relief and having comfort in another person.  Giggling feels like flirting, being shy.
  • my friends
  • laughing is BY FAR my favorite ab workout
  • laughter is the involuntary expression of happiness

Irony

I know a couple of posts ago I declared my love for Jorge, my blackberry.  But ironically a few days after that post, Jorge and I got into a huge fight.  He would not talk to me and kept shutting off on me.  I got fed up and decided it was time for a new phone.  He was a great first smart phone, but it was time to break up.  I have moved on to bigger and better.  I caved and got an iPhone and now I know what everyone was raving about.  Now that I have this I can not understand while I waited so long.

I am proud to announce the birth of Chuy, my iPhone born on January 18, 2011.

Don't worry...Jorge is in a good home in Maryland.  I was finally able to give my older brother a hammy down of mine!

the funny stand still

It has been awhile since I posted, I need to keep better track and post twice a week like I promised myself.  I guess I haven't written in a while because nothing has been that funny.  It is winter, nothing funny about that.  The snow is getting ridiculous and out of hand; I am so over it.  It has ruined so many fun plans, but has yet to stall me from going to work.

I am very excited for this weekend!! I am meeting my cousins in the city tonight for a classic Italian family dinner at Carmines and then I am meeting up with my friends and going out in NYC!  Tonight there will definitely be funny times.  I think that is all my cousin, Katie and I do when we are together; we laugh and laugh and laugh.

Trying to stay hopeful in this dreadful winter, here is what I have to look forward to...
