the funny stand still

It has been awhile since I posted, I need to keep better track and post twice a week like I promised myself.  I guess I haven't written in a while because nothing has been that funny.  It is winter, nothing funny about that.  The snow is getting ridiculous and out of hand; I am so over it.  It has ruined so many fun plans, but has yet to stall me from going to work.

I am very excited for this weekend!! I am meeting my cousins in the city tonight for a classic Italian family dinner at Carmines and then I am meeting up with my friends and going out in NYC!  Tonight there will definitely be funny times.  I think that is all my cousin, Katie and I do when we are together; we laugh and laugh and laugh.

Trying to stay hopeful in this dreadful winter, here is what I have to look forward to...

funny addictions

Honestly what is the world coming to with people and their cell phones.  Talk about calling the kettle black, but people and their cell phones have been making me laugh lately because of how important this little device is to people.  I will be the first to say,

"My name is Jenna and I am addicted to my blackberry, Jorge."

I had to laugh the other day while talking with my brother who is 13 years older than me.  I asked him how he and his friends my plans at night to go.  He explained how they would call his friends house line, say hello to his friends parent and ask to speak to his friend.  I thought this was so crazy because my generation has maybe only done this once or twice.  My friends and I made plans through calling eachother on our personal phones, instant messages, texts and now blackberry messenger.  My blackberry, Jorge, has caused so much stress in my life.
  • He has ruined nights at the bar when I recieve an email that I do not need to be reading on a Saturday night out with friends.
  • He allows my mother to call me whenever she wants and when I do not answer I get yelled at because my mom knows Jorge is always in my hand so she knows I am purposely not answering.
  • He has  dialed my boss from my pocket while drinking at the bar.  Luckily she is cool and thought this was hysterical.
  • He notifies friends when I read their messages and can prove I am a shit head when I do not respond right away.
I love Jorge... I really do, but where is the love back?

What are YOU addicted to?

my funny Pop-Pop

I am blessed to still have one living grandparent, my Pop-Pop; I am even more blessed that I grew up in the town next to my grandparents and probably saw them every day as a toddler.  My sister and I are very close with them.  Usually when kids trip and fall, they cry for their mother, not me... I cried for my Nana. Unfortunately, my Nana died 3 years ago and now my Pop-Pop is getting old and my family decided it was time for him to be moved into an independent living facility.  This was the best decision my mother and her siblings have made.  Where my Pop-Pop lives is the coolest place ever; it is college for old people!  My Pop-Pop loves it and he is absolutely adorable there; he is like the big man on campus!

one of my  ALL time favorite pictures,
my Pop-Pop trying to make me laugh when I was 20 months and a flower girl at my aunt's wedding
Anyways here is the reason why my Pop-Pop is the funniest old guy around...where he is living is a reasonable monthly rent, but being old and forgetting things, my Pop-Pop feels like he is going to be bankrupt soon.  (This is not the case at all, my dad is an Accountant and before we moved him, we made sure he could afford this for the upcoming years.)  So as a Christmas gift, my Pop-Pop sent my siblings and I money; we called him one night at dinner to thank him.  When he picked up the phone and I said "Hi Pop-Pop", and he said "who is this?" (he has 12 grandchild).  Me, being the wise guy said back to him "guess?" Now I know where I get my wise remarks from because he responded with "oooohh your talking fast so this has to be the youngest one."  He was on speaker phone saying all this and made my family laugh as we ate dinner.  Then as we thanked him, he snapped back at us in his Italian Bronx accent saying "enjoy it because its the last gift you will ever get from me, I AM GOING BROKE!"  Again, my family started to laugh, because we know he is not going broke and that he has enough money and then some to live there for years.

My Pop-Pop makes me laugh without even trying.  He is a great story teller and shares his story with anyone who has ears literally.   Poor Yankee fans, if my Pop-Pop sees you in a Yankee hate regardless of where you are and what you are doing, he will stop you to talk and tell you how he grew up 3 blocks from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and how he met Joey D.  When I am with him and he does this, it is sometimes embarrassing but I just got to laugh because it so cute and funny of him.  And I should talk, when I fight with people about being a die hard Yankee Fan, I find myself saying, "my family grew up 3 blocks from Yankee Stadium" just as my funny Pop-Pop does.

Are elders in your family just as funny as my Pop-Pop?

laugh and shuffle

I need music at work.  It helps me concentrate and it makes the day so way faster.  PLUS it adds laughter to hear some of the songs that come on and surprise you!  Some songs, I have to think twice why they are even on my iPod and some songs I laugh because they are totally inappropriate for work and I need to hit the next button as soon as I can.  My colleague/best friend/sorority sister, Chrissy, and I are constantly laughing at some of the songs that come on.

Here is a list of the songs we laugh at when they come on at work...
  • anything Jimmy Buffett (I was a born and raised parrot head, Buffett is definitely ALL over my iPod - the first song I learned how to sing was Cheeseburger in Paradise)
  • any Dane Cook song or parody
  • "I want your sex" by George Michael
  • Party in the U.S.A by Miley Cyrus
  • anything Spice Girls/BSB/NKOTB/Aqua(just gotta laugh off your childhood & smile)
  • A-teens rendition of the Little Mermaid's "Under the Sea" (can't help myself, it's my favorite movie!)
  • anything ABBA
  • ZTA songs (I was president of my sorority in college, so yes I am a dork and I have sorority raps represented on my iPod)
  • "Three Best Friends" by Zach Galifianakis from the Hangover
  • "Stu's Song" from the Hangover

everything I need in my office - ipod, coffee, vera bradley post its, family pics & inspirational quotes

iPods definitely brighten any office and add a sense of "hominess" for the worker.  It makes them feel more comfortable and adds the laughter, like it does for my department.  Even the other day, another my cube sharer when to plug in her iPod speakers to play her music, but I guess she forgot the volume she left the speakers at because as soon as she plugged it in, Britney Spears blasted full on in our office.  It stopped everyone and caused my cube sharer to act immediately and unplug.  She looked at me and I was already laughing, it was the highlight of our day.

What songs on your iPod make you laugh when they come on and surprise you?

the worst feeling in the world!

Another post inspired by Snap, but do you know what the worst feeling in the world is?  To me (and Snap) is when you misplace something and you cannot find it.  There is nothing worse then looking thru my purse for my blackberry to only realize the phone is in my pocket.  It is too funny to watch people freak out over lost items that simply are not lost and misplaced.

Snap bbmed me on Sunday saying she lost her wallet and was totally upset, who wouldn't be?  I felt so bad for her and she explained how some low life at the mall that day snatched her wallet; luckily there was no cash and just her credit cards (which she cancelled).  She was really mad at herself.  But Monday, I got a message from her saying she found her wallet and that her grandma had it the whole time.  How grandma got the wallet, who knows?  But she had it, now there is nothing to do but laugh it off.  Snap & I are the same person and I freak out over lost obsessions just as much as she does.

One of the funniest lost freakouts was a weekend in the spring when Schamte and I went to visit Mo at UDel.  When we go to Mo's apartment, we all jumped out and hugged since it had been awhile since we saw each other then all  hopped in Schmate's car to go on an adventure to find a parking spot.  As Schmate was driving she could not find her blackberry so Mo and I were searching her car for it.  We were calling it and could hear it ringing, but we could not find it for the life of us! Mo finally said it sounds like its coming from outside, but how could that be?  We kept searching and finally Schmate found a spot, so she came in the backseat to help us look.  On her way from opening and closing the driver's door and opening the back seat, she noticed her blackberry on the roof of her car!  Mo was right, it was coming from outside!  We DIED in laughter... how lucky is she that a phone stayed on the roof of her car while driving around Delaware... must be one strong phone!

I hope I do not sound mean; I mean loosing things suck, especially things that are valuable to you in any way.  But it is so funny to hear people's stories or watch people freak out over loosing something when it was simply in their pocket.  I, myself, need to listen to my own advice more; we all just need to stop stressing and laugh it off!
